Hot flushes and night sweats for women approaching 50 could be a thing of the past according to the latest research. An Australian scientist has developed a 20 minute interval protocol to help menopausal women rejuvenate and energise. Women in the study reported some truly amazing and unexpected results.
The women in the study undertook a 16 week program of cycle sprints 3 times per week. The program required rapid pedalling under a light load for 8 seconds followed by a 12 second rest for a total of 20 minutes. The 8/12 split creates a total of 8 minutes sprinting and a rest of 12 minutes. That’s 33% more rest that work!
More rest than you work, what’s the catch?
In the 8 seconds of sprinting the heart, muscles and lungs are moving at a speed that puts the body in oxygen deficit meaning you’re never resting instead forced to improve how well you recover. This short burst rapid movement forces the body’s cells to adapt quickly by stimulating the regeneration of youthful cells to cope with the demands being place on it.
So what of the night sweats and hot flushes?
Most of the participants reported an end to night sweats, hot flushes and sleepless nights. All had a noticeable increase in energy and reported feeling youthful again with increased feelings of happiness.
